US – AD/Resource Recovery Facility
Development of a resource recovery and anaerobic digestion facility
On 7th February, an open house event was held at the Wasatch Resource Recovery (WRR) facility in North Salt Lake, UT, to mark the start of operations.
The facility has the capacity to process nearly 260,000 gallons of liquified organic waste and 330 tonnes of solid food waste each day. The waste is being used to produce renewable natural gas.

India – WtE Facility
Development of a 5 MW WtE facility
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Karnataka Power Corporation Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a waste-to-energy (WtE) plant in Bidadi.
A tender has been issued for the design, build, operation and maintenance of the plant, of which the closing date is 29th March 2019. BBMP will supply 500 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to the plant each day.

Rehabilitation of a landfill and development of waste sorting and composting facilities
Last month, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) issued a tender for the supply and installation of a leachate treatment plant for the Hrybovychi landfill in Lviv. A pre-tender meeting will take place next month.

Australia – Biorefinery
Construction of a biorefinery converting sawmill waste into biodiesel and bitumen
Boral Timber is to investigate the feasibility of building a second-generation biofuels refinery at Herons Creek near Port Macquarie.
If it goes ahead, the facility will convert up to 50,000 tonnes of waste sawmill residue into transport-grade renewable diesel and bitumen. It could eventually account for up to 15% of Boral’s annual diesel needs.

Turkey – Biomass Plant
Construction of a 27 MW biomass plant
Oltan Köleoglu Enerji is undertaking the construction of a biomass power plant in Afyon, which, when complete, will be the second largest plant of its kind in Turkey.
It will process almost 250,000 tonnes of agricultural and forestry waste, producing 200 million kW/h of electricity. Of the energy produced, 85% will be sold.

Construction of a 70,000 tpa waste sorting facility
This week, the foundation stone was laid to mark the start of a project to develop a fully automated waste sorting facility in Satigny. When complete, the site will allow the canton of Geneva to recycle more than 50% of its waste.

Fernwärmeversorgung Niederrhein (FN) has reportedly been offered the contract to construct and operate a district heating plant at Philipps-Universität Marburg. The project will consist of the implementation of a wood-fuelled boiler plant and a combined heat and power plant.

Installation of biofuel boilers for a district heating system
Progress is being made on the refurbishment of Lutskteplo’s district heating network following the near completion of the decommissioning of the basement boilers. The company has invited tenders for the installation of pre-insulated pipes for ‘Network 2’ and is also expecting a biofuel boiler to be installed by summer 2018.
When complete, the project will improve the energy efficiency and the quality of heat and hot water supplied to the city of Lutsk.
