Global Waste Investment Fact File: Belgium

Our focus for the Global Waste Investment Fact File switches to Belgium and covers 21 projects in the country. These have a total value of US$1,551 million or US$74 million on average.


Key points from this Fact File

  • Incineration (with energy recovery) is the leading project type, accounting for US$1,026 million or 66% of the total. This is followed by recycling, accounting for US$385 million or 25% of the total.
  • The total estimated capacity of these projects is 3.3 million tonnes. This is equal to 159,241 tonnes per project on average and 70% of Belgium’s estimated annual waste generation.
  • Waste investments totalling US$1,211 million are expected to become operational over the next few years. This is currently expected to peak in 2019 at US$534 million.
