In the latest edition of our Global Waste Investment Fact File, we’re focusing on Nigeria and covering 21 projects in the country. These have a total value of US$1,986 million or US$95 million on average.
Key points from this Fact File
- Biofuel is the leading project type, accounting for US$1,071 million or 54% of the total. This is followed by incineration (with energy recovery), which accounts for US$391 million or 20% of the total.
- The total estimated capacity of these projects is 6.7 million tonnes. This is equal to 321,155 tonnes per project on average and 14% of Nigeria’s estimated annual waste generation.
- Waste investments totalling US$1,634 million are expected to become operational over the next few years. This is currently expected to peak in 2021 at US$1,011 million.
