#Editors’Pick – MBT and resource recovery facilities

Israel: Construction of an MBT facility

Shikun & Binui and Azrieli Group, through its GES subsidiary, are to build and operate a facility for the mechanical biological treatment (MBT) of municipal waste in Shafdan, Rishon Lezion.

The facility will use STRABAG Umwelttechnik’s technology to separate waste for recycling and produce biogas from food and organic waste composting operations.

When financial closure is reached, the facility is expected to take 3.5 years to be constructed.

Canada: Development of a resource recovery centre

Earlier in April, the City of Ottawa approved a rezoning application for a new integrated waste management project that will process solid, non-hazardous wastes and soils that are generated by the commercial/industrial and construction/demolition sectors.

The facility will compost organics, treat contaminated soils, collect landfill gas and pre-treat leachate.
