AcuComm’s Chief Data Analyst, Andy Crofts, gives us a round-up of this week’s chosen country focus for the Global Waste Investment Fact File.
Next up in our series of our Global Waste Investment Fact Files is the South Korea edition. AcuComm currently lists 28 waste projects in the country. These have a total value of US$2,593 million or US$93 million each.
Key points from this Fact File:
- Incineration (with energy recovery) is the leading project type, accounting for US$1,480 million or 57% of the total. This is followed by recycling, accounting for US$562 million or 22% of the total.
- The total estimated capacity of these projects is 3.9 million tonnes. This is equal to 138,255 tonnes per project on average.
- This capacity is equal to 19% of South Korea’s estimated annual waste generation at 20.7 million tonnes.
- Waste investments totalling US$1,448 million are expected to become operational over the next few years. This is currently expected to peak in 2020 at US$633 million.
