The 91 waste plant developments analysed in this report represent investment of US$2.4 billion. The projects were all reported in Waste Business Finder from Q1 2013 to Q4 2014 and are located 18 countries as diverse as India, Ghana, Hong Kong, Germany and the UK. Dealing with food waste is becoming a rising priority in established and fast-growing developing markets where rising incomes is leading to more consumption of packaged/processed foods. Where figures are available, a total of 2.79 million tonnes per year of capacity will be added to process this growing waste burden. A useful by-product of food waste disposal is power generation: often small in scale and meeting local needs, over 90MW of generating is expected from the 41 projects that provided figures.

In the week ended 22 Mar 2015, AcuComm added 45 new or updated waste projects to our Waste Business Finder database, worth an estimated US$7702 million and reported waste capacity of 3.8 million tonnes.

This takes the cumulative total to 2,980 projects since 2013, with a total estimated investment value of US$314 billion.

Municipal solid waste accounted for 61% of waste capacity in projects covered in the Business Finder database in January 2015.

Incineration and gasification technologies accounted for over 90% of MW capacity in projects covered in November 2014.

This takes the cumulative total to 2964 projects since 2013, with a total estimated investment value of US$294 billion.

In case you missed it, the most popular report over the last week was #Landfill.

LandfillThe 161 landfill developments analysed in this report represent investment of US$2.4 billion. The projects were all reported in Waste Business Finder from Q1 2013 to Q4 2014. While landfill is predominantly preferred in emerging economies, 50 are located in the USA and UK. Capacity figures are available for 20 projects providing 11.1 million tonnes per annum, mainly fed by MSW. A useful by-product of landfill disposal is power generation: 69 of the projects concentrate on provision or extension of gas facilities at existing sites.
