Future Earth Energy is planning to build a 15 MW biomass plant on the site of the former Drakelow C Power Station, south of Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire.
The facility will have a maximum throughput of 169,500 tonnes of biomass-rich fuel per annum. It will utilise gasification technology to produce a syngas that will be used to generate electricity on-site using a steam turbine. Generated electricity will be exported to the grid and the plant has been designed to be CHP ready so that future development on the adjacent Drakelow Park site could readily make use of generated heat.
The proposed facility received planning permission from Derbyshire County Council in November 2015. Agent for the application was TNEI.
On 31st July 2018, the Environment Agency announced that it has received an environmental permit application from Future Earth Energy for the development of the facility. If approved, the permit will cover the incineration of non-hazardous waste in an incineration or co-incineration plant with a capacity exceeding 3 tonnes per hour.
