Principal Waste Type:
Construction of an AD plant at a wastewater treatment facility.
In July 2018, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) announced that it will start generating electricity in September at the Bugolobi sewerage and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The project forms part of the Kampala Sanitation Programme - Lake Victoria Protection Project, funded by the African Development Bank, the EU, the KfW and the NWSC.
The facility will treat 45 million litres of water per day before it is released into Lake Victoria, The plant's anaerobic digesters will generate 0.63 MW of electricity, which will be used to power the WWTP.
Solids removed from the wastewater will also be used to produce fertiliser and briquettes for use as fuel.
