Development of a material recovery facility.
Maya Energy LLC is proposing to construct and operate a solid waste processing and recycling facility at 2727 West 35th Avenue in Gary, IN.
According to a report in the NWI Times, on 31st January 2018, Matt Reardon of MCR Partners, the project consultant, stated that Maya Energy would invest approximately US$50 million into the project.
On 28th April 2017, Maya Energy submitted an operating application for the Maya Energy - Material Recovery Facility. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) found the application complete and on 12th January 2018 opened the 30-day comment period for this application, which ended on 12th February.
IDEM Public Information Officer, Barry Sneed, told NWI that a request for additional information from Maya Energy concerning its application was mailed on 11th January and the company has 60 days to respond to the request.
In May 2017, the project was approved by the Zoning Board and then went to the City Council for final approval.
The proposed facility would cover approximately 165,000 square feet with capacity to recycle up to 1,600 tons a day of municipal solid waste, including paper, plastic, wood, glass, metals, and construction and demolition waste.
